He is fascinated by the girl and proceeds to court her in his own fashion–all the snowflakes are made in her image and giant Tiffany-shaped icebergs appear in the sea. On the last day of autumn, Tiffany travels to the woods to witness the Black Morris, the traditional dance of the gods heralding the arrival of winter. 5/11/2023 0 Comments The Cabin Faced West by Jean FritzA remarkable blend of truth and storytelling.’ Booklist, starred review’An insightful memory’s eye view of her childhood… One comes to appreciate the generous affection of her nurse/companion Lin Nai Nai, the isolating distance in her mother’s grief over losing a second child, the dynamics of a suffering population venting its hostility on foreigners, and most of all, the loneliness of a child’s exile from a homeland she has imagined constantly but never seen… The accolades speak for themselves:’Fritz draws the readers into scenes from her youth in the turbulent China of the mid twenties. 5/11/2023 0 Comments Psycho killer cecily von ziegesaruntil they die." Von Ziegesar climbs aboard the mashup train, turning her original Gossip Girl novel into a crime scene. "It's a luxe life, but someone's got to live it. Īmerican Psycho's Patrick Bateman has met his match in Manhattan's newest, most fabulous trendsetting serial killers, Blair Waldorf and Serena van der Woodsen. Her attempted murder doesn't go unnoticed by Blair, however, who isn't about to let Serena kill whoever she wants-not when there's Cyrus Rose and Chuck Bass and Titi Coates and everyone else who's ever irritated Blair to get rid of first. If that means killing him, well, c'est la vie. But here's where our dark tale takes a turn: Serena decides that the only way for her to make things right with Blair is to eliminate Nate. Just as in the original story, Serena returns from boarding school hoping to make amends with her BFF Blair Waldorf-things just haven't been the same since Nate Archibald came between them. So begins Gossip Girl, Psycho Killer, a re-imagined and expanded slasher edition of the first groundbreaking Gossip Girl novel, featuring all new grisly scenes and over-the-top gore by #1 New York Times bestselling author Cecily von Ziegesar. I was curious to see how the rest of the story looked so when I saw this Absolute Edition had both versions AND Alan Moore's script, I pre-ordered this. I read Brian Bolland's blurb and how he recolored it but I did not expect THAT big a difference. It wasn't until years later that I saw pictures online of The Killing Joke in its original colors and it floored me. It did not disappoint and time has done little to tarnish my love for it (it probably works best as a finale to Batman rather than just plopped as normal in the timeline but it still works as is for me :) ). I knew of its reputation and bought it and read at home. I'm not the biggest reader of comics so it wasn't until I was 20-21 when I read The Killing Joke when I saw the then new edition on a bookstore shelf in 2008-9. 5/10/2023 0 Comments The Rug Merchant by Phillip LopatePor otro lado, y a pesar de la insistencia de su madre para que siente la cabeza, todavía no ha encontrado una mujer con la cual compartir su vida. He also fathered two other prominent Flemish painters, Pieter Brueghel the Younger and Jan Brueghel the Elder, although it is thought that they were not taught by their father, as he died when they were young children.Īs a pioneer in Netherlandish genre painting, he portrayed social aspects of 16th century life, many of which were paintings of peasants, with a large landscape element. His nickname was “Peasant Brueghel,” as he would often don peasant’s clothing and attend social gatherings and weddings, in order to mingle and interact with the locals, and gain insight and inspiration for his paintings. He was apprenticed early in his life to painter Pieter Croecke van Aelst, and in 1551 around the age of 26 he was accepted into a painter’s guild in Antwerp as a master painter. Pieter Brueghel the Elder was an innovative Flemish Renaissance painter and printmaker, known for his sweeping landscapes and peasant scenes. 5/10/2023 0 Comments I Call Him HIM by Scott W.
